The second edition of Volume XIX, the 19th Amendment / Voting Rights pencil. This edition of the pencil features our extra-firm graphite and includes the graphite quality stamped on its barrel. This version is not part of the Volumes subscription.
On August 18, 1920, Tennessee became the 36th state to ratify the 19th Amendment. After nearly a century of lobbying, marches, and protests, it finally became illegal to deny anyone the right to vote based on sex. This was a big step forward for voting rights equality in the United States, though it wasn’t without its flaws.
